In a middle ages setting ( without magic ) thats it .. hes pretty much done as a sword fighter. period.

But... he doesn't seem to care much, does he?

As Centcomm has noted, this injury has now placed him in an unexpected and decisive disadvantage. So much so, that he may in fact, be in danger of losing this duel... to a girl! :O

He's able to grasp this instantly and responds accordingly. Though Katagnar may seem rash and chaotic, he's a shrewd tactician.
Kauto 25th Jun 2015, 3:55 PM edit delete reply
The fight seems to have pretty much the same elements as in Pieter's dream (#27, #28). A great little touch!
Songgu Kwon 25th Jun 2015, 5:50 PM edit delete reply
Songgu Kwon
Thanks! Yeah, just like in the other fight, the combatants scored hits simultaneously with Katagnar coming out on the losing end.

But but but... she's bleeding from her head! That's bad!
Songgu Kwon 25th Jun 2015, 5:53 PM edit delete reply
Songgu Kwon
That COULD be bad... real bad. But then again, even mild cuts on the head tend to bleed profusely.

Ouch! That looks pretty bad for Katagnar, though if he just got hit in the patella he got lucky, a little bit above that and I don't think he'd be standing.
Songgu Kwon 25th Jun 2015, 5:58 PM edit delete reply
Songgu Kwon
Yeah, a severed quadriceps tendon would give him some trouble. By the looks of it, his patellar ligament might be completely severed. There goes most of his mobility.

Well. I fully expected Katagnar to be either eviscerated or chopped in half at a 45 degree angle or something, so this is actually kind of a relief.
To be honest, I think this trend we see everywhere of women defeating men in combat is just a sign of things to come.
I have read online about super soldiers that could be made through a process known as "Horizontal gene transfer", whereby DNA from animals with favorable qualities, like baboons that have strength and reflexes several orders of magnitude above humans, could be inserted into the chromosomes of humans, and it turns out that the "X" chromosome is best suited for this process.
So I predict that at some point in the future, women will be able to do anything and men will become extinct.

Super strong baboon women soldiers? Uh oh.

Yup. If you accidentally look at their boobs they will rip your heart out.

Mighty Katagnar always has the option of saying "Good fight, you win!" and limping away. But is he savvy enough to take this. WE SHALL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE, AGAIN. Good work, SK

Thanks, depat57! I imagine that knowing when to dig in and when to retreat is essential for a long career as a warrior.

I got stabbed in the knee once (freak accident), blade went in about an inch and left a very impressive looking gash but didn't hit anything important and I probably walked 20 miles on it over the next couple days without issues, I would not have wanted to be in a swordfight though

The best part was the next week, being on the track for PT and having it burst back open and what seemed like a quarter-liter of fluid drain out, a wound right on the joint like that can't really be stitched closed, I've got a nickel-sized scar there right next to my kneecap.

I imagine a cut straight across the kneecap like that would probably be a lot worse than a superficial impaling injury

Yikes! Knee fluid! :O

That could be like a sports drink for the really hardcore.

Glad she didn't stab him in the guts. I hope that they'll finish trying to kill each other now. :o

Yeah, the last panel of the previous page looked rather ominous for Katagnar, it seems. It's the blade you don't see that you have to worry about.

Blackfeather could prevail on account of a lucky critical, but I would normally expect being part of a party to be her decisive advantage. Katagnar is high-level, but is in effect soloiing against Blackfeather and two mid- to high-level spellcasters. Plus whoever else joins the fray. In Dungeons & Dragons Online, there are some useful defensive Illusion spells, like Blur, that make someone harder to hit. And even mid-level Shamans in DDO have awesome offensive spells. I have had more than one adventure end with the sight of a Kobold Shaman's Lightning Bolt being launched in my direction.
Songgu Kwon 27th Jun 2015, 11:43 AM edit delete reply
Songgu Kwon
Yup. This is why a mixed party is generally more effective than say... a bunch of fighters or just illusionists: "Crap, they successfully disbelieved all of our illusions and now they're coming over here to kill us. Do something!"

Ummm yeah. Go now Katagnar, give the elf a nod for skill. Get yourself a heal quick though, last thing you're gonna want is to get stuck in some town with an "I used to be an adventurer too, until...." story.

Heh heh. 'I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow making job and settled down. Oh, and this elf cut my knee open real good. You wanna buy some arrows?"
