Thanks! In order to gain insight into what makes Pieter tick, we must look back... look back... look back... look back... (echo & fade out)

Multiple story layers ensue, and I can't wait to see how they'll be connected in the end. :)
Medieval setting, fantasy setting, world / multiverse(?) beyond where the Evil Overlord took over Grandma's mind, not even counting char sheets and Beholder RPG group ('cause I think they are Monty Python-esque nerd fun).

Basically, as of page 83, it's one long story arc. But the story gets divided into two distinct parts. We are deep in the 2nd part and will stay here to the end. Hopefully, it'll all make sense. ;)

Is that some Fafhrd and Grey Mouser refference in the last panel?

Negative. It's more of a Dickensian kind of theme... you know, poor orphan children running amok in a city...

"A beaten and forsaken whelp often matures to become vicious"
This is why all schools need to adopt anti bullying laws!
A lot of people are not born as sociopaths, they are made into one by their peers!

METALLICA LYRICS
"The Unforgiven"

New blood joins this earth,
And quickly he's subdued.
Through constant pained disgrace
The young boy learns their rules.

With time the child draws in.
This whipping boy done wrong.
Deprived of all his thoughts
The young man struggles on and on he's known
A vow unto his own,
That never from this day
His will they'll take away.

What I've felt,
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown.
Never be.
Never see.
Won't see what might have been.

What I've felt,
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown.
Never free.
Never me.
So I dub thee unforgiven.

They dedicate their lives
To running all of his.
He tries to please them all –
This bitter man he is.

Throughout his life the same –
He's battled constantly.
This fight he cannot win –
A tired man they see no longer cares.

The old man then prepares
To die regretfully –
That old man here is me.

What I've felt,
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown.
Never be.
Never see.
Won't see what might have been.

What I've felt,
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown.
Never free.
Never me.
So I dub thee unforgiven.

[Solo]

What I've felt,
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown.
Never be.
Never see.
Won't see what might have been.

What I've felt,
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown.
Never free.
Never me.
So I dub thee unforgiven.

Never free.
Never me.
So I dub thee unforgiven.

You labelled me,
I'll label you.
So I dub thee unforgiven.

Never free.
Never me.
So I dub thee unforgiven.

You labelled me,
I'll label you.
So I dub thee unforgiven.

Never free.
Never me.
So I dub thee unforgiven.

Ooh, a great song by a great band! Reminds me, I gotta add some more metal to my mix.

Rattigan!

...the best that i could come up with is from a Disney movie...

i like the idea of them chasing animals on rooftop to Metallica's For Whom The Bell Tolls. Epic cat chasing music. Duhn Duhn Duhn DUHM! "Take a look to the sky just before you Die: it's the last time you Will!" Drdrdrdr-drdrdrdr-drdrdrdr-BDOOM!! Panel of feral children holding aloft spitting, frothing-at-the-mouth street animals, lightning strike!

as a side note, should we expect to see a courtroom sword fight or idle murder in the background for some semi-genuine medieval experience? lol i always imagine that medieval times were exceptionally dirty, and that people just idly murder/flogged one another.

i couldn't resist. i'm planning some character concepts, and i had to turn on For Whom The Bell Tolls.

this is why we don't talk about Metallica around me...

I am listening to it right now!

I've already penciled pretty much all of the main story. But I really Like your idea of random violence happening in the background. I'll see if I can squeeze a bit of it in between the prodigious quantities of word balloons and the panel edges. ;)
