That is one tough Wombat. Solid of build, sly of temper, and determined to get you in sharp, pointy range! See, he took a solid hit on his shield, and very possibly got that young fellas axe lodged in there to boot.
These are such detailed and telling scenes. I can hear the impact and the squishy, slicey effects. I need to start giving out these kinds of 'meat off the bone' details when I run games.
Clarence has diverted the mercenaries' attention away from Pieter, who looks like he has his eye on those arrows. But what was Blackfeather thinking in the first place, taking on this many mercenaries without enough arrows? Did she incorrectly assume they would follow Durgo's orders, or did she underestimate how experienced the mercenaries are?
She underestimated the number of mercenaries present and was also unaware of the strife within their ranks. Her action was the spark that set off an already volatile situation.
You know, mercenary mental processes are alien to me. One look at Blackfeather and I'd be thinking of how to make a good impression rather than how to kill her. Maybe one of the thugs will get a clue and switch sides just for possible plus points? :-)
I'm thinking whatever chance there was for an amicable resolution died with the first man to take an arrow to the vitals. Now it's a matter of pride and revenge. It would be funny if one of them switched sides just so he could ask her out on a date. "So... you wanna go have a mead with me sometime?"
Any other potential suitors would have to get past Durgo first. He is never working with these mercs again -- even assuming any survive -- but he can still try to re-ingratiate himself with Blackfeather.
